Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Yixing Teapot
This extraordinary Yixing teapot from the late 1800's is in excellent condition and has the gorgeous patina of age. "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon" is Chinese expression that roughly translates to "talented(or dangerous) person, hidden from view". Traditionally, this teapot would be gifted to someone, usually young, who is believed to have a lot of unrealized potential.
The teapot has a formidable Asian dragon on one side and a phoenix on the other. A tiger crouches on the lid. But there are hidden surprises everywhere. A second dragon is hiding inside the lid and a second tiger crouches in the bottom of the pot. A third dragon is expertly applied over the mark of the potter on the bottom of the pot.
