Kumaon White, Organic
-
Product Description
Kumaon White is an extraordinary tea. Not because the flavor is remarkable but, because its story, and the way it benefits the community that produces it, is extraordinary. Kumaon is a remote area in the Himalayas, with soil, and climate, ideal for tea production. Nearly 200 years ago, the British started several experimental plantations, which fell by the wayside, as getting the tea to market, from the remote area, was too challenging. In recent years, an effort has been made to re-invigorate the tea industry in Kumaon, to generate revenue streams for the local people. The old groves, and 200-year-old tea plants,, have been rehabilitated, and Kumaon currently produces 30,000 pounds of organic tea each year, which greatly contributes to the infrastructure of Kumaon and the well-being of its inhabitants.
Kumaon White has more body and flavor than the traditionally delicate white teas produced in China. The flavor is fresh, fruity and rounded, with hints of melon and notes of lilac flowers.
Steep 3 tsp per cup, for 2-4 minutes at 175F.
